Our first AI intern – and what she evokes in people

At the provider event on March 31st in the canton of Schaffhausen, the elevator pitch was presented to our new intern. And with that, Pandora's box is opened.

Because: Katharina Irniger is not a real person but our first AI intern.

From our perspective, their video turned out really well. This is due not only to the concept but also to the execution. The whole thing was supported by our visual storyteller Kim Sokola, as well as by the song, which was polished by art and design professional Zoran Stojanovic, formerly known as Zoro MC. It's immediately obvious that professionals were at work here. And yes, the song is catchy.

Things got interesting when it came to the reactions.

Both at the event and afterwards, when we continued to show the video, there was a clear pattern:

Those who watched the video without context were often surprised when we revealed: "This is actually an AI."

Those who watched until the end often said:

"I kind of suspected it."

Those who watched until the end will recognize this tension from other examples as well. For instance, in campaigns like the one by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) with AI-generated people. You look at the images, form an opinion. And as soon as it's communicated that it's AI, you suddenly think: "I actually already noticed." Many said:

"I kind of suspected it."

A visual that sparked a lot of discussion among the Swiss population.

At the same time, technologies are developing rapidly.

If we think back six months, there were already videos with emotional facial expressions that convinced many people they were seeing real people.

The line is constantly shifting.

And that's precisely where the real question arises:

How much AI is acceptable? When does it need to be declared? And in what form?

Commercial for Zentralbahn AG.

In the past, it wasn't mentioned that images had been retouched, that a model was a composite of several shots, or that a product didn't actually exist in that form.

Our Katharina Irniger, at least, is listed among the employees as AI.

So where is the line today between deception, fake news, and a tool that simply amplifies a message?

For us it's clear: Katharina Irniger will stay.

Not as a joke, but as part of our work.

She becomes the protagonist on our channels, brings new dynamics to our content and challenges us at the same time. Things like lipsync in Swiss German or natural movements are anything but trivial. But that's exactly where the appeal lies.

She is not just a figure, but also an experiment.

Or to put it another way: it is our project that helps us move forward.

And who knows – maybe you’ll soon hear them outside of our videos too.

Their first single, "Bewerbe isch wie werbe, digga" (Applying for jobs is like applying, dude), is already in the works. We're excited to see what's next.
